Slurry Wall
The site for this particular project was alongside the River Adur near Shoreham Harbour, next to a scrapyard that was the reason for the slurry wall. This is because, over the years, oil from the scrapyard had been seeping into the land that was now going to be acquired for the purchase of flats overlooking the harbour. The length of the trench was 23 metres, with a width of 0.75mm and a depth of 5-8 metres depending on ground conditions. The blended mix gave a permeability of 1×10-9, stopping further seepage of oil from the adjacent land. Photos show the trench being dug out whilst grout was being pumped in – this was to stop the collapse of the trench.
